The big island bioregional council held in second meeting in so many months to listen to ideas from various community leaders about proposals for the islands future. The council is formed by elders in the fields of
of sustainable architecture, social architecture, and economic development.
They were very excited with Michael Gibson plans for a new green source marketplace in Hamakua designed to help bring the local farmers foods to
broader base of customers. They agreed that every district needs an outlet with this kindof local charm. Also at the meeting were some youth who had sustainable approaches that needed a hearing and some advice. Stay tuned for further reports from this group.
In North Kohala a team headed by Michael Salfeld is also looking the bundle together some needed ag support resources and we need them to get at least ten to fifteen new small farms into the A commercial kitchen and dehydrator would allow farmers to create value added crops with their surplus yields. This also may be located near the transfer station so that local runs to the "dump" could drop off the valuable cardboard, paer, food waste, and green trimmings to be ground into soil emolients. This needs county support and fast.. We can't get the new farmers enough support!!!
