SUSTAINABLE BREAKTHRU!!!! ......The community kitchen

Recently the sustainable Ohana on Kaauhuhu rd. decided to combine efforts and have a single kitchen cook for up to twelve families. We did this to be able to bulk purchase
foods and have a subscription farm order as a way of saving money and increase the cultivating time spent by people now growing food. The savings were shocking! We found that
everyone enjoyed the group aloha and the food created by several really talented cooks. The total savings for each person was over fifty percent of their current food bill.
At the same time some new terraced farm plots kicked up the on site production of vegetables by fifty percent. A new Hopi resident introduced the companion planting magic
of the "three sisters" planting scheme where the corn planted acted as a trellis for the beans and then the squash leaves kept the sun off the ground creating more moisture.
The real surprise was that eating together permitted us to constantly improve our readiness plans for the neighborhood. Call Jim with questions at 808-889-0223
