HAWAII HOMEGROWN FOOD ABUNDANCE PROJECT UPDATE

This is a periodic update of the Hawaii Homegrown Food Abundance project. We got your name from the Kohala Center Food Summit e-mail networking list (unsubscribe instructions below, if desired).

Hawaii Homegrown Food Abundance update. I've posted an updated project web page, which describes the project in further detail. Several people have expressed their interest in participating in a one year project to feed themselves entirely off their land without imported fertilizer, fuel, or chemicals. Instead of only my 1/4 site in Holualoa, I expect we will have five sites participating in the project in different ecological zones: dry, wet, low and high elevations, and windy. If you are willing to take on this very demanding research on your site for an entire year, feel free to contact me. I am looking for the best sites to cover a broad range of environmental conditions so that the project results will be relevant to the greatest number of Hawaii residents.

Hawai'i Island Homegrown: Food Self-Reliance Workshop. This information-packed educational event will take place Hawai'i County Imin Center, Holualoa, North Kona, 8 am–6 pm, Saturday, October 18, 2008. Drawing from the extensive experience of seven presenters, this workshop will empower you to be in control of your own food security, reduce your food budget, increase consumption of fresher, more nutritious food, decrease the impact of spiraling fuel costs, and help create an abundance of food for sharing or sale. Download the workshop brochure here: . The early registration fee of $65 lasts until September 5, after which the regular fee of $75 applies.

Food Security – Pacifika Style presentations. I have presented this talk several times in past months, including at the recent Maui Island Sustainability Expo. Future venues are listedhere: .

Thanks, and please keep me posted on your food abundance successes!

Aloha,
Craig
